Interesting news this week as Owens & Minors announced they had acquired Movianto Group from Celesio AG. Rumors had circulated for the past few months concerning who would acquire Movianto - DHL and other major 3PLs were included in the possible companies interested.
Instead of a 3PL, it was another US distributor that won out. This is at least the second such acquisition a major US-based distributor has made so far this year. It appears the healthcare distributor market is undergoing an evolution in its own right and expanding capabilities globally to match the expanding healthcare supply in general. For Owens & Minors, this acquisition will give them entry into the estimated $8bn European pharmaceutical logistics market.
