A bit of surprise today as it was announced AmerisourceBergen acquired World Courier for $520 million. I fully expected one of the larger transportation providers would snap up World Courier but it appears I was wrong.
AmerisourceBergen's largest competitors, McKesson and Cardinal Health have expanded outside the US whereas AmerisourceBergen still has a small presence outside of the country. According to AmerisourceBergen's CEO, "This is our first truly international expansion."
World Courier has 137 offices in 52 countries. Only 35% of its business is in the US.
Congratulations to AmerisourceBergen however, I'm still not 100% convinced if this was a smart move. More study on the acquisition will need to be made.
